The Eastern England SDE operates on a cost-recovery basis.
How costs are calculated
Users are charged to cover the costs that are incurred by our NHS data partners for preparing and providing data, and to maintain a high-quality, secure platform and service.
We operate a cost-effective pricing model and can provide a full cost breakdown as part of the application process. We charge for:
Data access
Costs are variable depending on the data assets requested.
Consultancy
Any specific additional work to access additional data or prepare/curate data for a specific project. Quotes can be provided depending on the support needed.
Platform use
Costs cover an initial set up and configuration fee, cloud and compute fees (you will only be charged for what you use).
Data egress
On completion of a project, summary results and code may be taken out of the platform through an air-lock review process – this ensures that no potentially disclosive data leaves the platform. Additional data egress requests may incur a charge depending on scope and complexity of the review required.
Revenue share
Any revenue generated from commercialising intellectual property derived from data analysed in the SDE is shared with participating NHS organisations and reinvested into improving and expanding data access and services in the SDE.
