The Eastern England Secure Data Environment (SDE) is built on strong partnerships across the NHS, academia, industry and with our regional communities.
These partnerships ensure that the SDE is operating in a secure and responsible way and supporting research and innovation that delivers meaningful health benefits for patients and populations.
Our partners play different but complementary roles, from delivering the technology platform, to securely supplying data and providing strategic oversight and regional support.
Our programme partners
Our programme partners are responsible for the delivery, governance and day-to-day operation of the Eastern England SDE.
- Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the lead accountable organisation for the SDE, providing executive and strategic oversight, governance and assurance.
- Cambridge University Health Partners provide executive and strategic oversight.
- Health Innovation East is our delivery partner and provides the core technology team and service desk, supporting platform operations, onboarding and user support.
Together, they ensure the SDE is delivered to national standards and operates as a trusted NHS service.

Our data partners are NHS organisations that securely make health data accessible to support approved research projects within the SDE. We are actively working with NHS organisations across the region, with more data partners expected to join in 2026. Current data partners include:
