About us

The Eastern England Secure Data Environment is enabling safer, more efficient access to health data for research.

Data about our health has been used for centuries to cure disease and develop new treatments. However, most health data is unused for research and innovation because it is stored in different formats and locations, and because of its sensitive nature is difficult to access and link.  The Eastern England SDE is part of a national network of connected NHS organisations that are working with researchers, patients and the public to solve this challenge and make health data access safer and more efficient.

How we are funded

The Eastern England SDE is part of a national network of NHS Secure Data Environments. The initial development of the SDE is funded by the NHS with an expectation that future research projects will cover the costs that are incurred by our NHS data partners for preparing and providing data, and to maintain a high-quality, secure platform and service.

Any revenue generated using the platform is shared with participating NHS organisations and reinvested into improving and expanding data access and services
